In the absence of Father Padilla, Father Fortunato said he has been reassigned to the parish for three years. Brother Knight and recently assigned rector of St. Jude’s Father Art Proulx said he was there on his day off to thank the Knights for being “reliable and generous with your talents to the parish of St. Jude.” He also asked the Knights to be creative in supporting vocations to the priesthood and religious, and seminarians, and he vowed his support as the Knights continue promoting respect for all human life. Father Proulx also said he wants the Knights to raise funds for out-of-parish causes only, since he prefers that the parish grow in stewardship that provides parish funding.
GK Bielicki presented Fathers Fortunato and Proulx with gift stoles from the Council.
Grand Knight’s Report:
Grand Knight Bielicki reminded all to wear their Knights gear at Masses and other parish gatherings to heighten the Knights’ visibility.
The Council will host Coffee and Doughnuts after Masses on Nov. 4. The next Pancake Breakfast, set for Dec. 30, has been canceled due to its proximity to New Year’s Eve.
GK Bielicki reminded all that Brother Bill Feck and his wife Dora were honored during a Columbus Day Celebration and Monday Night Pasta Dinner Oct. 8 at the Social Club of St. Petersburg for their work to help feed the hungry through assistance to St. Vincent de Paul and St. Joseph Parish in South St. Petersburg. GK also urged participation in a Thanksgiving Dinner program to be hosted at St. Joseph’s.

Brother Dave Kanaszka reminded all that this year’s Christmas Party is scheduled Dec. 22 at the Lions Club on Sunset Beach. He suggested we make it a daytime, family event, rather than an evening program. There is about 125 person capacity, and tickets will be made available to the Knights first, and then to the parish at large. They are $15 per person, and $25 per couple.
Brother Carlos Salcido, chair of the council’s project to repair the uneven concrete walkway in the Grotto, said the Dad’s Club from St. Jude School has indicated they will assist with the project, to begin at a date to be announced.
Brother Ries moved that the Council send $500 toward Hurricane Michael relief. The motion was seconded by Brother Tom Walker and unanimously approved.
A motion to send $150 from the Food for Families collection and another $150 from the Council, totaling $300, to the Thanksgiving Dinner program at St. Joseph’s, was made by Brother Kanaszka, seconded by Brother Barron, and unanimously approved.
Father Proulx suggested that a Spaghetti Dinner to be co-hosted by the Columbiettes and Knights be held at the parish sometime before Lent.
GK also circulated a sign-up sheet at the meeting for volunteers to assist in the upcoming Mass and veneration at the cathedral of the relics of Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelicina.
Brother Phil McGarry urged all to see the movie “Gosnell”, about abortionist and convicted mass murderer Kermit Gosnell.
There was discussion about finding a ground-level meeting place for the Knights of our Council, since those with mobility issues have a difficult time or are not able to take part in Council gatherings in our current second-floor location.
GK Bielicki stressed that we need to recruit a full complement of Brothers to make a reliable First Degree team. Brothers are needed to join as members or alternates and be ready to meet one Saturday every other month. First Degree team captain Wayne Ries is the contact person.
There was none.

District Deputy Director José Carrera thanked Brother Ries for the First Degree ceremony held Oct. 13 at St. Jude’s, and Brother Mitchell for making First Degree then. He said our Council’s is the only First Degree team in the area, and he urged more Knights to join the team.
He also urged participation in a Third Degree at 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at Father Lopez Council in Pinellas Park, a Regional Soccer Challenge Oct. 20 at St. Raphael Parish, and the Diocesan Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration Oct. 27 in Tampa. He said the next Second Degree is coming up sometime in January.
