Monthly meeting Minutes for Nov. 20, 2018


GK Bob Bielicki called the meeting to order at 6:58 p.m., then Father Tony Fortunato led all in opening prayer, and GK led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion to Approve Last Month’s Minutes:

The minutes were approved.



Recognition of Priests, Visitors and New Knights:

GK Bielicki recognized Father Tony Fortunato, and the Brother Knights unanimously accepted Council membership for First Degree Knight Matthew Doucette, and the transfer into our council for Knights Father Alex Padilla, Peter Donovan and Thomas Tanzy.


Chaplain’s Report:

Father Padilla reaffirmed that our rector, Father Arthur Proulx, is very impressed with our Council.


Grand Knight’s Report:

Grand Knight Bielicki invited all present to take part in the 4thDegree Patriotic Installation Nov. 23 in Orlando. He then made a motion, which was approved, to provide financial assistance towards purchasing a griddle and oven for the parish center. Treasurer Tom Walker suggested that the money could come from Lenten Fish Fry proceeds. The amount of the donation towards the griddle and oven were to be determined.

GK Bielicki commended the Knights who assisted in the exhibition of the relics and Mass for Padre Pio at the cathedral.

GK Bielicki also urged Brothers to step up for the formation of a First Degree Team at our Council. Team members and alternates are needed, and need commit to only one Saturday every other month. Those interested were urged to contact Team Captain Wayne Ries at 813-340-7177. The next First Degree is scheduled at the cathedral Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

This year’s Christmas Party is scheduled 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Treasure Island Lions Club Beach House, 9300 W. Gulf Blvd. There is about 125 person capacity, and tickets will be made available to the Knights first, and then to the parish at large. They are $15 per person, and $25 per couple, and to be sold at doughnuts after all Sunday Masses.

GK Bielicki said we need to plan for a Parish Spaghetti Dinner to be co-sponsored by the Columbiettes. Brother Steve Sims volunteered to chair the event, which will be open free to St. Jude parishioners at a yet to be determined date.

GK Bielicki reminded all to wear their Knights gear at Masses and other parish gatherings to heighten the Knights’ visibility.

GK Bielicki also reminded all of the upcoming Fourth Degree Assembly sponsored Christmas Party at the Pasadena Yacht Club Dec. 1. Tickets are $49 each, available from Brother Wayne Ries.

The Council will host Coffee and Doughnuts after Masses on Dec. 2. The next Pancake Breakfast is set for Dec. 30.

GK Bielicki urged all members to step up in rank, and assist more with chairing and participating in Council events.


Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Tom Walker reported that the Council now has $1,606 in its checking account, Regalia Reserve of $400, and Money Market account balance of $6,177. Total receipts were $395 and expenses of $1,909 for a loss of $1,514. Receipts included dues of $335, and donations of $60. Expenses included Donations of $1,328, a Christmas Party food expense of $500, and administrative expenses of $81.


Financial Secretary’s Report:

Financial Secretary Rob Smith reported that all membership cards are current.


Trustees’ Report:

None given.


Chancellor’s Report:

Chancellor Bill Bryan called on all to continue their support of our priests, and to remember that October is Respect Life month. He urged Brothers to join Brother Mike Hadden and his wife and others standing up for life on Saturdays before the abortion clinic at Central Avenue and 40thStreet in St. Petersburg.

Fund Raising Committee Report:

GK Bielicki called on Neal to set up a meeting with Chris Holzward in consultation for future fund raising ideas.


New Business:

Brother Peter Connor, an altar server since age 6, proposed that the Council sponsor an Appreciation Mass and Dinner for St. Jude’s altar servers, their parents, our seminarian Israel “Izzy” Hernandez, and sacristans at a date to be announced, perhaps after Easter. A sign-up sheet was circulated at the meeting for those interested in being committee members.

Brother Skip Barron announced that he would be leaving the Friday, Nov. 23, for St. Dominic Parish in Panama City to volunteer for two weeks of assistance to the parish which was levelled by Hurricane Michael. He requested prayers for his journey, and said those wishing to send donations with him could see him the following morning at the daily Mass at St. Jude’s.


Unfinished Business:

There was none.


District Deputy Report:

District Deputy Director José Carrera said there are no degrees until January, and he reminded all to follow the guidelines for membership and urged the formation of a Membership Team. He also reminded all to follow the dress protocol for participation in the First Degree.

Field Agent Report:

Field Agent Brother Frank Caruso was not present.


Trustee’s Report:

None given.


Chancellor’s Report:

Chancellor Bill Bryan reported that there was good support for the recent prayer vigil before the abortion clinic on Central Avenue, and he urged all to pray for a good turnout for the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. in January.



Financial Secretary Report:

Financial Secretary Rob Smith said we are looking at the Council’s Retention Policy and cleaning up the membership roster. He is acting as advisor to a Retention Committee which is being formed toward that end.

Fund Raising Committee Report:

Chaplain Father Padilla reminded all that Father Proupx wants any fund raising done by the Knights to be primarily a community builder; minimizing the fund raising aspect and maximizing the community building and positive aspects of the activity.

Food for Families:

The monthly collection was held for the food pantry at St. Joseph Parish in South St. Petersburg.
